Illustration: the emphasis and list stay; fonts, colors, and spacing follow the destination. Results vary by editor.

Keep what matters

  • Keep the structure. Preserve useful formatting instead of flattening everything to plain text.
  • Lose the mismatched styling. Let the destination supply its fonts and colors.
  • Keep your clipboard. Your original copy and ordinary paste shortcut stay unchanged.

This development version takes a few manual steps to install.

Download source · v0.1.17
  1. Download and unzip the source folder.
  2. Open chrome://extensions and turn on Developer mode.
  3. Choose Load unpacked and select the extracted PasteEater-0.1.17 folder.

Works with many web editors. Google Docs support is experimental.

Keep the extracted folder on your computer after installation. Chrome uses those files each time it loads the extension.

Compatibility

Gmail has dedicated formatting support. Google Docs is experimental: links, tables, images, and Undo may behave differently. Plain-text fields still receive plain text; Chrome’s protected pages and some custom editors aren’t supported.

If you already use an unpacked copy, keep its existing Chrome entry to preserve your settings. Chrome’s installation guide  explains the manual process.

Privacy and permissions

Clipboard content is processed locally, without a PasteEater server, analytics, or telemetry. Clipboard access happens when you paste or explicitly run diagnostics. Website access lets the extension insert content into supported editors; settings stay in your browser.

Settings and advanced features

Choose formatting presets, customize shortcuts, and save settings for individual websites. Supported rich-text editors can also preserve headings, tables, code, and clipboard images.

Optional LinkedIn personalization can fill recipient placeholders in message drafts. Profile lookup may open a temporary inactive tab using your browser session. Uncertain details require review, and you send the message yourself. Recipient details aren’t saved as a contact history.

The source download includes the extension, icons, documentation, and tests.
